Best comedies on Apple TV+ 📺 Apple's 'far out' event invite 🌌

Everyone can use a good laugh, right?

Unfortunately, when my wife and I go looking for a comedy to stream, we usually end up closer to tears after an endless search for something worthy of our attention.

Our top story this weekend might make things easier. It's a list of the top five comedy series on Apple TV+, and it includes some real winners.

And, if you're not already on the Apple TV+ train, you should jump on this rare opportunity: Best Buy is offering three free months of Apple TV+. (Note: This deal is good for new and returning subscribers.)

P.S. Also this week, we received official confirmation from Apple that September 7 is going to be "far out." Can't wait!

Apple TV+ is known perhaps first and foremost for its international hit Ted Lasso. But that heartwarming show about a bumbling soccer coach with a positivity streak a mile wide only scratches the surface of the streamer’s burgeoning comedy roster.

News and opinion

People love to examine Apple’s event invites looking for hints of what will be unveiled. The starry invitation to the September 7 Far Out event might be a clue to one or more long-rumored features finally coming to the iPhone 14.

Plus, Apple rumors and leaks:

Real-world experiments with the new MacBook Air show Apple’s latest can use Parallels 18 to run Windows 11 faster than a Dell XPS Plus. It’s a tribute to the performance of the Apple M2 processor in the latest Air.

Apple now offers the parts and tools to fix several MacBook models. This is a hassle but lowers the cost, right? Not necessarily.

There’s no reason the Mac mini has to take up unnecessary desk space. Apple can and should build the entire computer into the keyboard. The result would minimize clutter, making it an ideal computer for anyone living in tight quarters. And it would be quite portable.

Tired of slumming it with just a regular ol’ expensive Apple Watch? Well, you could dress it up a bit if you fork over $15,000 for an Apple Watch case smothered in more than 400 diamonds.

A replacement for the original, full-size HomePod is reportedly in development. The smart speaker is expected to provide better audio performance than the current HomePod mini. And it might debut as early as this fall.

How-tos

Being able to see your phone’s battery percentage right in the status bar is incredibly useful — but Apple killed it five years ago. Until iOS 16, that is. In the upcoming operating system you can, once again, get the battery percentage in the status bar for the first time since 2017.

Concealed in Wednesday’s invite to the big Apple early fall event is an augmented reality Easter egg. It’s not just cool – it might be a hint of what to expect.

Developer Mode is a security feature new to iOS 16. It will prevent unsigned code from running on your device — apps that are not on the App Store nor TestFlight. If you’re writing your own apps in Xcode, you will need to enable Developer Mode before running your app on your iPhone or iPad.

Deals

With the rising excitement around iOS 16, now’s an excellent time to launch your own app. But you don’t need programming experience, or a mobile developer on your payroll, to get your idea off the ground. All you need is an active website and AppMySite.

In CDKeylord.com's Back to School Sale, you can score savings on software (including Microsoft Windows and Office) with discount code CULT.

The Speedy Mag Wireless Charger helps keep your iPhone up and running for the low sale price of just $48.99.

Plus, more hardware deals:

If you have an iPhone 11, 12 or 13, why not change it up with a new case? That’s much cheaper than getting a new iPhone. And this week, it’s cheaper still. You can grab any of 41 different cases for iPhone 13, 12 and 11 for 20% off in the Cult of Mac Store.

If you’re counting down the days until an international trip, you might want to prepare yourself in the meantime. The Babbel language app lets you learn up to 14 languages.

Reviews

Oh, brother, here we go again. See is back for its third and final season with more grim, doomy, portentous, heavily filtered, scowling, medieval dystopian tedium . The Apple TV+ show about a future Earth where most everybody is blind takes one last lap through Joseph Campbell and the big book of heroic cliches.

Plus, more Apple TV+ recaps:

The Adonit Neo Pro iPad stylus gets power just by being placed on the edge of the tablet. This is a trick that used to be reserved for Apple Pencil, but no more. Even better, the stylus is well-designed for note-taking and sketching, and offers palm rejection and tilt sensitivity.

The new ANC headphones check a lot of boxes for over-ear cans at their $150 price point. They punch above their weight in noise cancellation, playing time and sound quality.

Everybody knows a leather Apple Watch band is a timeless and elegant accessory, just as it has been for watches in general for decades. But not all leather bands are equal. Laut's Prestige Leather Apple Watch Band made from premium Saffiano leather finishes your look in style.

Setups

Sometimes you see one thing that seems quietly radical about a computer setup, only to find out it’s full of even weirder tweaks. This featured setup is a good example. It hides a Mac mini behind a display. But in front of the display, a wildly split mechanical keyboard surrounds a Magic Trackpad turned backward — on purpose!

Some people care deeply about cable management, with nary a cord to be seen in their computer setups. Others couldn’t care less about it, leaving wire-spaghetti all over the place. And folks in the middle want to do it right, but meh, maybe next week, and maybe only somewhat.

Who says you need an external display in your computer setup? Some people get by just fine without some big, expensive monitor and whatever hub and cables it might require.
